These skills include being respectful of unfamiliar cultures and studying the history of those cultures. In your post, I would like you to discuss whether schools should make it a priority to prepare students for a global society. Please explain your opinion.

Students should focus primarily on learning values cherished by their own local cultures in order not to forget who they really are. Trying to raise global citizens might lead to students losing their own identities. Only after schools give students a solid grounding in the history of the local culture should they focus on learning the history of others.

Technology is making the world more accessible to people than ever before. Therefore, we would expect that more people will be working in countries other than their own and would benefit from learning those global skills that would help them be successful in any country.

  • (1) In my opinion, schools should not make it a priority to prepare students for a global society at the expense of other essential education. This viewpoint aligns with Claire’s argument that a strong grounding in local culture should come first. (2) I would further argue that schools face limited resources and time, which should be focused on providing students with a solid foundation in core subjects. (3) To be more specific, schools often have limited time to cover a wide range of topics, and trying to prioritize global skills might result in neglecting local knowledge and other important academic subjects. Students need a balanced education that equips them with necessary academic skills and an understanding of their own culture before attempting to broaden their perspectives to a global level. (4) For example, my cousin Ethan, who attended a local school with a heavy emphasis on global issues, felt that his education lacked focus on local history and literature. While the global skills were valuable, he often struggled to keep up with his peers who had a stronger foundation in the core subjects. (5) To conclude, schools should focus on providing a strong education in core subjects before prioritizing global skills due to limited time and resources.
