Some teachers give their students feedback on assignments by talking to them in person during a student teacher meeting, other teachers give feedback to students through written comments. Which do you think is better and why?
talking to them in person
I believe face-to-face feedback is more efficient because it allows for instant clarification and deeper discussion. For example, last semester, my Media Studies professor gave personalized feedback during 15-minute meetings. In those sessions, I could freely ask all my questions about the paper and receive immediate follow-up suggestions. This saved time compared to written feedback, which often requires back-and-forth emails and delays. Ultimately, not only did my paper improve significantly, but I also learned valuable writing techniques through these interactive sessions.
If I had relied on written comments, resolving every doubt would have taken much longer.
I think written feedback is more efficient since it provides concise, actionable comments without scheduling hassles. For instance, my Art History professor last semester emailed detailed corrections / covering all areas needing improvement. With these notes, I could revise my paper directly without extra preparation or meeting time. Thanks to this method, my paper improved dramatically, and I mastered key academic writing skills.
In contrast, arranging in-person meetings would require coordinating schedules and preparing questions in advance—far less efficient than a well-structured written review.
