Should students majoring in math and science not be required to take humanities courses?

问题

Your university currently requires all students to take one humanities course in a subject such as literature or philosophy in order to graduate. However, some students majoring in subjects such as math and science think that these humanities courses are not relevant to their field of study, and they should therefore not be required to take them. Do you agree with these students? Explain why or why not ?

  • I agree with these students.

Firstly, requiring these courses can be overwhelming for students who are already juggling a heavy workload in their major. For example, science students have to do a lot of experiments and write papers. Adding a humanities course on top of that can be exhausting and potentially affect their performance in their major.

Secondly, requiring humanities courses for all students, regardless of their major, can increase the financial burden on both the school and the students. For instance, if a university offers a wide range of humanities courses, it may need to hire additional faculty or provide additional resources for those courses. This can lead to higher tuition fees for students, which may not be feasible for everyone.
