We've been discussing the process of starting a new business, and one of the most critical aspects of this process is staffing - that is, deciding which people to hire. Please discuss the following question: Is it better for new businesses to hire experienced veterans of the industry or to staff the business with younger employees who are right out of university?

I think a company should staff a business with the most experienced employees possible. If you are starting a new business, you need people around you who know what they are doing and can quickly get the business up to speed. Spending time training inexperienced people will slow you down.

I understand what Claire is saying, but if you are starting a new business, you want people who are particularly enthusiastic and energetic. Who better than a recent graduate to bring those qualities to the job? You would be guaranteed an ambitious hard worker.

  • From my perspective, it is a better idea for new businesses to hire fresh graduates. This viewpoint aligns with Andrew's belief that young employees are particularly enthusiastic and energetic. I would further argue that the cost-effectiveness of hiring younger employees is a significant advantage for new businesses. Since fresh graduates generally command lower salaries than experienced veterans, this allows companies to manage their budgets more efficiently. By allocating fewer resources to salaries, new businesses can redirect funds to other critical areas such as marketing, product development, or technology investments, all while still benefiting from the enthusiasm and potential of capable new talent.

While Claire pointed out the valuable knowledge that experienced employees may bring, she failed to acknowledge the possibility that they might be set in their ways and rely on outdated methods. On the other hand, fresh graduates, despite their lack of experience, often offer new perspectives and are more adaptable to modern technologies and innovative approaches, which can drive the business forward.

To conclude, it is advisable for new businesses to hire fresh graduates.
