Change to Funding Policy for Student Clubs
Every year the university gives a certain amount of funding to each student club to pay for its activities. In the past, clubs could request extra funding if they ran out of money during the year. Beginning next fall, however, these contingency funds will no longer be available. Dean Mitchell explained: "We think it's important for club leaders to learn to plan their spending carefully, and the easy availability of extra funding may lead to poor planning and overspending." The dean added that if clubs end up needing additional funds, there are many ways they can raise money themselves, such as by holding a bake sale or other type of fundraiser.
