I disagree with the statement that it is better for students to live with a roommate who is studying the same subject. I think it's healthier to live with someone who studies a different subject. For one, it can provide a nice break from your own studies. Imagine coming home from a long day of math lectures and having a roommate who is into literature or history. You can bounce ideas off each other and learn from a totally different perspective.

Also, it can teach you how to manage your time better since you won't always have a study buddy available. You'll have to be self-motivated and plan your study sessions ahead. So, while a roommate in the same field can be useful, I'd say go for the diversity.
