I think that government should offer free training. I agree with Andrew that engaging in training programs helps develop in-demand skills. For example, my uncle, he was fired because his skills did not meet the requirement in the technology company. The technology develops really fast, every month or week. New tech updated. So my uncle participating in a training program, enhamcing the skills. Also, the couch teaches him how to decorate himself. With his hard work, he used only on month to learn the program and get a higher salary job. However, Kelly raised a relevant point that the money would directly allow them to live, I think it is false. People who have free money would be lazy and do not make chance.

题目信息

Doctor Achebe

This week, we'll be discussing how technological advances are transforming the job market, making some jobs unnecessary. Let's focus on government actions. Suppose the government had to choose between two ways in which to support people whose jobs are no longer needed. The government could either give them enough money to live on until they find new jobs or offer them free job training without giving them money directly. Which of these two solutions do you think is better? Why?

Andrew

I believe that the government should prioritize providing free job training opportunities. Modern training programs are usually costly, which means that many people will not be able to afford them without the government's funding. By participating in training programs, people will develop new, in-demand skills and become more competitive in the job market.

Kelly

Although I agree that having access to free training programs sounds promising, I think the government's first step should be to give people enough money to live on until they find new jobs. This money will go directly into people's pockets and allow them to make their own choices concerning their future.

  • From my perspective, providing financial support to individuals who lose their jobs is a more effective strategy. This approach aligns with Kelly’s belief that such support empowers them to make informed choices about their future careers. Direct financial assistance offers the flexibility for job seekers to pursue opportunities that align with their skills and interests. This alleviates the pressure of immediate financial distress, allowing them to find jobs that are truly a good fit and enhance long-term employment prospects. For example, my cousin Lilly received crucial financial support after losing her job. This freedom enabled her to refine her digital marketing skills and network effectively. At a workshop, she met a sustainable fashion startup founder who, impressed by her expertise and dedication, offered her a key role in their digital marketing team. This position not only matched Lilly's skills and interests but also allowed her to spearhead innovative campaigns and significantly elevate the brand's engagement. Lilly’s experience underscores how financial support can facilitate thoughtful career transitions and lead to fulfilling employment.
