I\'m a journalism major.Oh, of course, David, I remember your phone call. You\'re on staff at the campus daily, right, exactly.And we\'re going to run a piece to highlight just what it is your office does.I don\'t think most of our readers really know.Oh, all right,but I\'ve got to keep this short. I have an appointment in just a few minutes, sure.Well, all of us in operations try to ensure that the day to day needs of the university are being met,but in this office, our particular focus is on figuring out how to do that without compromising resources for future generations,okay, but like in what ways, specifically?Well, like alternative transportation. We\'ve converted our busses, the entire campus fleet, to biodiesel,so now they run on a mix of regular diesel fuel and vegetable oil from Dining Services.Cool. I saw these television documentary a couple months agoabout these college students who traveled across the country in a car they\'d converted to run completely on vegetable oil,recycled cooking oil from restaurants.But I didn\'t know we\'ve been doing almost the same thing with our busses here on campus. Yeah,and the program\'s already paid for itself in savings.Also, let\'s see there\'s wind energy.We\'ve installed miniature wind turbines on the roofs of several buildings on campus. Really.Where are they? I can\'t wait to check them out. Get some good photos.Well, they\'re scattered along the edge of the university property, for example, you know where the College of Engineering is?Oh, okay, so way out there. No wonder,right? And these wind turbines are being used for two purposes, actually,to help meet the needs of the campus dormitories for electrical power and also to generate data for a government research project.Now, large scale efforts like these may seem the most newsworthy,but it\'s important to emphasize the small stuff.It\'s generally the little things that have the biggest impact.For instance, Dining Services has just implemented a reusable drinking mug program.So when students choose to bring in their own ceramic mugs and drink from those instead of from plastic cups,well they\'re rewarded by getting 20% off the price of the beverage.That\'s because when lots of students do that, the savings to the university are considerable,but even more important, we expect this year alone will prevent over 10,000 plasticgetting thrown landfills.Yeah, you rush through a meal and don\'t really think about that.And this office got that project going.Yes, we did.
