2 .We psychologists have a term-locus of control.

3 .Locus of control refers to where people think control over their lives comes from:

4 .whether it comes from themselves, or from somewhere else.

5 .People who think that control is in themselves are "internals."

6 .And people who think it comes from somewhere else, are "externals."

1 .Let's say there're two people going for job interviews.
我们假设现在有两个人要参加工作面试。
2 .One of them is an "internal"--
其中一个人是个比较关注内在的人,
3 .she has an internal locus of control.
她有着内部控制点。
4 .Since she thinks that control comes from within herself,
鉴于她认为控制力来自于她本身,
5 .she'll believe that her success and her preparation are really her responsibility.
她会认为她的成功和准备都是她自己的责任。
6 .So, she's likely to really work on her interview skills ahead of time.

7 .Then, if she gets the job,

8 .she'll believe that it's because she's worked so hard,

1 .OK, and another job candidate is an "external."

2 .He perceives other things--say, his interviewers-- to have more influence.

4 .It depends on what mood they're in, and you know...

5 .luck! Now, with his external locus of control,

6 .he's not as hard on himself, so he's more likely to take risks.

7 .He might interview for a job that he's not completely qualified for.

8 .If he gets it, he'll think he's really lucky and,

9 .because he believes external forces are in control,
