This week, we will be discussing space exploration. Some people think that it is a waste of money for governments to fund space exploration. Others disagree with this view arguing that space exploration is a valuable and necessary investment for our future. They think that it is worthy for governments to fund space exploration. I want to know what you think about this topic. Do you think that governments should fund space exploration? Why or why not?

I don't think that governments should fund space exploration because it will be too costly to build spaceships and develop related technologies. Though space exploration tech costs billions, it doesn't offer direct benefits to most people, which makes its funding a controversial issue.

Personally, I do think that all the costs will be worth it. The potential scientific discoveries and technological advancements could have far-reaching impacts that justify the initial investment. Imagine the new inventions that might come from this exploration. Such technology could greatly improve our everyday lives.

  • In my view, governments should not divert funds toward space exploration. I agree with Kelly that the construction of spacecraft is prohibitively expensive. Moreover, there are urgent issues on Earth that demand significant financial investment. It would be more advantageous to allocate resources to address major challenges such as poverty, healthcare, education, and climate change. Given the everyday hardships and survival challenges many people around the world face, spending large amounts on space exploration, which yields no immediate benefits, seems highly imprudent. For example, at a community forum, my cousin Ethan pointed out that millions are spent on space endeavors while his school still uses outdated textbooks and the local clinic struggles with understaffing and a lack of medical supplies. Ethan described the challenges his friends and family encounter in securing timely medical appointments and his teachers' difficulties in providing adequate educational resources. He backed his arguments with pictures of his school’s worn-out books and a recent news article about the clinic’s financial woes, effectively making a case for redirecting funds to address pressing local needs.
