One of the major environmental problems is the limited freshwater supply in many areas of the world, which means that we need to find effective technologies to provide people with enough drinking water. One solution is to improve the technology for removing salt from seawater, which could allow us to use seawater to replenish dwindling freshwater supplies.

I think the biggest problem is the air pollution caused by the overuse of motorized vehicles. The obvious solution is for local governments to promote alternatives. like building bike lanes in cities or improve public transportation with electric buses. Both of these would be easy to implement as well.

  • From my perspective, the most significant challenge confronting us today is climate change. As global temperatures climb, the resulting melt of ice caps and glaciers causes sea levels to rise, endangering coastal and island communities. Furthermore, climate change leads to an increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, including hurricanes, droughts, and floods. However, there are numerous approaches to address these issues. Take China, for example, now a major source of carbon emissions due to its swift urban and industrial expansion. The country has adopted innovative urban planning solutions to mitigate the impact. Urban planners there are designing cities capable of capturing and reusing rainwater through the integration of wetlands, ponds, green spaces, and green rooftops. These initiatives not only help in managing rainwater and mitigating flood risks but also cool down urban areas and provide recreational spaces for citizens. Crucially, these green projects contribute to carbon sequestration, offsetting a portion of the urban carbon footprint. By expanding and adapting such progressive measures, we can address multiple aspects of climate change while improving the quality of urban life.
