Agriculture sometimes involves clearing large areas of forest to make space for crops. This practice can be harmful to the natural environment in many ways; in particular, the loss of trees can negatively impact animals that rely on the forest for their habitat. In order to minimize these negative effects, some farmers engage in a practice known as agroforest-a land management approach that strategically blends agriculture and forestry (forest management). In this approach, farmers preserve some trees on the land where their crops grow. These trees are used intentionally both to maintain an important wildlife habitat for local animals and to benefit the crops by providing improved growing conditions.
Explain the concept of agroforestry and how it is illustrated by the example in the lecture.
