Listen to a conversation between a student and an employee in the Campus Security Office.
Hi, my name is Samantha Frederick.
I got a call about lost property.
Yes, Samantha, someone just turned in your student ID.
I\'ll just need your signature and I\'ll retrieve it.
Wow. Okay.
I didn\'t even know it was missing.
I must have left it in the dining hall after breakfast this morning.
I was in such a rush to get to class.
I guess I would have noticed if I had needed to get into my dorm.
Anyway, while I\'m here, can I ask you a question? Of course.
A friend will be staying with me for a week next month.
And we were wondering if she could use the gym facilities while she\'s here, exercise classes and also the pool.
Can she get some sort of guest pass?
Okay, let\'s back up. The limit for having a guest in your room is two nights.
Unless you get permission from your floor manager, roommate and everyone else who lives on your floor at least a week before your guest arrives.
Yeah, I did that. Actually. I have a single room.
I got the application from my floor manager and everyone on the floor signed.
They\'re all okay with it.
You should have it on file here I think.
Okay, I can look it up. Now, we do offer a guest card for a fee
Which would give her limited access to some recreation facilities, but that doesn\'t include the pool.
Oh, I think she was really hoping to get some time in the pool.
She\'s training for the charity event next month. Charity event?
Yeah, the swim event we\'re hosting to raise money for the summer camp program for children.
It\'s at our pool here.
Oh, right, that rings a bell.
Hmm, yeah, I don\'t know what to tell you. The pool facilities are expensive to maintain, so except for special events.
They\'re limited to university staff, students and alumni.
Alumni. Oh, I should have thought of she graduated from here last May.
Oh, well, in that case, what she can do is get an alumni card.
Which actually works a lot like your student ID card.
Like it\'ll get her into the buildings and everything.
Well, not all the buildings. It doesn\'t do everything a student ID does.
But the gym?
Right. She\'ll have unlimited access to the gym facilities while she\'s here, including the pool.
And there are a couple of other things, like the library and the computer center.
She\'ll get a list when she gets her ID.
But is there a fee?
We do ask that alumni make a small donation to the school, just five, $10 whatever she can do.
But it\'s not required.
The card is free, and she can request it online.
Or she can come here to our office if she needs a parking pass. However, then there\'s a small fee.
Oh, okay, good.
Thanks a lot. I\'ll let her know.
