### 第1段

1 .<-NARRATOR:-> Now listen to part of a lecture on this topic in a theater studies class.

### 第2段

1 .<-MALE PROFESSOR:-> So, for example...

2 .back when I was in college, one of my roommates, Richard, was in a play I went to see.

3 .And when he first walked out on stage, I have to admit, I was a little distracted.

4 .Richard was dressed up like an old man-

5 .I could tell that his hair was colored gray and he was pretending, you know, to be older,

6 .so he walked more slowly-

7 .the way an older person would.

8 .But at first I only saw him as my roommate

9 .dressed up to look like an older man.

### 第3段

1 .But then as the play went on,

2 .I began to think of him less as the guy I lived with

3 .and more as this older man who was a father...

4 .one who had worked very hard for his family...

5 .uh, the family in the play.

### 第4段

1 .And in the play, the father gets sick,

2 .and so is out of work-

3 .which, you know, caused me to become a little sad.

4 .And because of the father's long illness,

5 .the family was worried that they wouldn't have enough money to pay the bills.

6 .And this made me feel worried too.

### 第5段

1 .Well, in the end,

2 .what happened was...

3 .the family all came together

4 .and everyone found jobs and started working-

5 .they all pitched in to help in the time of crisis.

6 .So, the family gets by and pays their bills,

7 .and soon after,

8 .the father recovers from his illness.

9 .And this made me feel relieved,

10 .and even rather happy.
