While I understand that Claire's viewpoint emphasized that teenagers can learn plenty of useful skills by doing part-time jobs, I align more with Andrew's perspective that it is not necessary for teenagers to do part-time jobs. Firstly, teenagers are usually overwhelmed by academic workload such as assignments and examinations. In my area, teenagers in high school always get up early in the morning and spend all day in school so that they do not have any time to do part time job, which probably put unnecessary pressure on them. Additionally, part-time job may not have positive influence on teenagers because there are also negative respects in the real society. for instance, teenagers might even learn to smoke, fight stay up late from the adult strangers in their jobs. above all I think part time jobs do not necessary.

Doctor Diaz

We've been discussing ways that parents can help prepare their teenage children for adulthood. One line of thinking is that parents should encourage their teenagers to take part-time jobs to help them learn to be responsible, even if it is not an economic necessity for the teenagers to work. What are your thoughts on the issue? Should parents urge teenage children to get a job? Why or why not?

Claire

Teenagers should work part-time. When I was 16, I washed dishes at a restaurant, and I'm glad I did. I learned a lot about time management. I had to use my free time wisely to make sure I could complete homework despite spending time working at a job. This is a valuable life skill.

Andrew

I would have to disagree. A teenager is still just a kid, and in my opinion, a kid needs to focus on going to school and learning. A job would be an unnecessary distraction. If it's all about learning responsibility, I think there are a lot of other ways to do that without the commitment required by a job.

  • In my opinion, it is beneficial for parents to encourage their teenage children to take up part-time jobs. This view aligns with Clarie’s belief that part-time jobs can teach teenagers valuable lessons in time management. Additionally, earning their own money is an invaluable experience for teenagers, teaching them the importance of hard work and financial responsibility. With their earnings, teenagers have the opportunity to learn firsthand about managing finances, which includes budgeting, saving, and making wise spending choices. These financial skills are fundamental, laying the groundwork for financial independence in adulthood.

While Andrew has argued that a child's primary focus should be on their education and knowledge acquisition, he overlooked the fact that part-time jobs provide a unique form of education that complements academic learning. In these jobs, teenagers learn skills such as time management, interpersonal communication, and financial literacy, which are often not adequately taught in schools.

In conclusion, it is indeed advisable for parents to encourage their teenagers to engage in part-time jobs.
